S&P Global Celebrates Transgender Awareness Week with Chris Mosier

Chris Mosier

Our friends at OPEN Finance invited us to a special event in celebration of Transgender Awareness Month sponsored by S&P Global's Spectrum ERG in the Times Square Room amid the spacious offices of S&P Global, on the 36th floor of 55 Water Street. There we were treated to a speech presented by Chris Mosier, American transgender athlete and advocate, who is the first transgender athlete to receive a contract for a Nike commercial.

Edgar Peterson welcomes the crowd
Chris Mosier is one of the most influential transgender figures in sporting history. He began his athletic career before transitioning, started his transition in 2010, and in 2015 earned a spot on the Team USA sprint duathlon men's team for the 2016 World Championship, making him the first known out trans athlete to join a U.S. national team with a different gender from the one assigned at birth.

Chris shared his experience including the details of his actual transition, his challenges and victories as a triathlete, and his successes as an advocate and spokesperson. His tales of being denied use of locker rooms and public bathrooms were most enlightening, considering how these are freedoms that the rest of us take for granted.

In the wake of continued attacks on the Trans Community from the Trump administration, this was a most poignant, informative, and inspiring presentation. After the talk, the plentiful hors d'oeuvres and free-flowing wine made for a delightful networking event.

Congratulations, Chris!! We're so proud of you.
